Support for adults

I know first hand how completely devastating suicide loss is. It is horrid, hard and at times may feel unsurvivable. Yet I, and the hundreds of people I have supported, are testament to the fact it is possible to, not only survive, but to find a way to live again. I do what I do, because I know that the right support can make a real difference.

One-on-one and group programme support options are available.

“Shelley you're an incredible lady. Every session was so helpful and at a time when I really needed it. Thank you!"

— Bereaved Mum

One-on-one support

I provide a safe, judgement-free, confidential environment - in-person or more often, via zoom. I meet my clients where they are at. I ask, rather than assume to know what you most need or what might be most helpful for them, at that time. That said, if you ever come to a session and are not sure where to start, I will always come with options and ideas of what might be helpful for you. Everything I share with you will be evidence-based. That is, based on what the latest suicide bereavement research tells us is most helpful in supporting people to make sense of what has happened, and to find ways to cope and to remember and honour their loved one.

Group support programme - Waves

Keen to connect with others who ‘get it’ , learn more about grief and suicide loss, and ways to help you navigate through this?

Waves is a free 8-week grief educational programme for adults (18 years +) who have been affected by the suicide of someone they know.

Myself and Jenny McIntosh facilitate the Waves programme through our charity, Tony’s Place, here in Wellington. To find out more, visit www.tonysplace.org.nz or click here.

If you are interested in the Waves programme, yet live outside the Wellington area, visit here to find out if Waves is available in your local area. (Scroll to the bottom of the linked page to find list of suicide bereavement groups).

What I consistently hear, is that clients value being able to:

  • be with someone else who ‘gets it’ and someone who knows about suicide and ways of coping,

  • feel less alone in their experience

  • talk about things they may not feel they are able to discuss with anyone else.

These days I work with only a small number of one-on-one clients. If you are interested in working with me, or wish to find out more, please do reach out. My contact details are here.
